Supply chain collaboration – read more on the challenge background

Research: supply chain collaboration

The supply chain collaboration approach requires a new mindset where people think and act to improve business performance by working with other businesses towards shared goals, with shared risks, rewards and communication based on mutual trust and commitment.

The creation of digital collaboration tools is fundamental to enable this and is the focus of this research framework and model challenge.

Business to business collaboration involves the sharing of important data, requiring complex governance systems that define data ownership, commercial rights, use and access whilst observing strict regulations such as the UK and the European Union’s GDPR.

Due to this complexity, before we invest in collaboration tool development, we propose a focus on the creation of effective digital governance tools for supply chain collaboration.

Good governance may not be the reason why companies start collaboration, but its absence will often be why the collaboration ends.
